Julie McDonald is co-founder and partner of McDonald Selznick Associates, a talent agency devoted to the representation of choreographers, stage directors, performance producers, dancers, educators and talent with a foundation in dance.
Her clients lend their considerable talents to every aspect of entertainment and media across movies, television, theater, music and live entertainment. For her accomplishments in improving compensation terms and working conditions for dancers and choreographers in all media, she received the Decade of Dance Award from World of Dance, Lifetime Achievement Awards from Dance Under the Stars Choreography Festival, Dancers Alliance and The Carnival: Choreographer’s Ball.
McDonald was the first agent to exclusively represent dancers and choreographers when she founded the dance department at Joseph, Heldfond & Rix agency in 1985. Before that, dancers were largely unrepresented in commercial entertainment. In the first year, with nothing more than a phone and a desk, her department grossed more than $1M.
In 2000, she and partner Tony Selznick formed McDonald Selznick Associates, which represents a veritable who’s who in the commercial dance world. Her clients are Emmy, Tony and MTV Music Video award winners. Her clients direct and choreograph Las Vegas residencies, Broadway productions, television dramas and sitcoms, awards shows, Olympic Opening Ceremonies, major motion pictures and music videos and tours for chart topping recording artists.
McDonald also co-created the American Choreography Awards and sits on the Boards of American Dance Movement, Center Dance Arts and Dance Magazine.
