Australian born creative director and Helpmann Award–winning choreographer Mitchell Woodcock is renowned for his expansive career across all facets of the entertainment industry.
From creative directing and choreographing hit television franchises The Voice Australia and Australian Idol, designing global Opening Ceremonies for FIFA and T20, creating performances for the likes of Rita Ora and Kylie Minogue, choreographing acclaimed equity musicals, shaping luxury events for Dior and Qantas, and bringing stories to life on screen for Netflix and Paramount+, Mitchell has become one of the most versatile and sought-after creatives.
At 21, Mitchell launched onto screens as the youngest ever choreographer on So You Think You Can Dance Australia, a milestone that led to his Helpmann Award–winning work on Saturday Night Fever. With a foundation in theatre, having performed in over eight Australian equity productions including Wicked, West Side Story, and Chicago, he has since worked as a dance captain, resident choreographer on Diane Paulus’ Australian production of Pippin, and choreographer of Elf at the Sydney Opera House, which was nominated for Best Choreography at the Sydney Theatre Awards. Most recently, his choreography for Annie gained international attention for its viral Easy Street production number.
Through his work in theatre, Mitchell has gone on to direct and choreograph marketing campaigns and TVCs for Australian equity productions of Chicago, Jesus Christ Superstar, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Annie, and Saturday Night Fever. Since founding his production company, New Ground Collective, he has also creative directed and choreographed live performances for more than sixty national and international music acts, including Kid Laroi, Adam Lambert, Kylie Minogue, Rita Ora, Meghan Trainor, Khalid, George Ezra, and James Arthur, for major events such as The ARIA Awards, TV Week Logie Awards, NRL Grand Final, The Australian Open, Splendour In The Grass, NYC Pride, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and WeHo Pride.
His touring credits include creative direction and choreography for Tones And I’s UK and US tours, Welcome To The Madhouse, Guy Sebastian’s Riding With You and T.R.U.T.H tours, and Client Liaison’s Australian and UK tours.
His work extends into the fashion industry, where he has collaborated with leading global brands. Notable highlights include serving as movement director on Naomi Campbell’s The Face, choreography and show calling for Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and the Prix de Marie Claire Fashion Awards, as well as movement direction for the Karl Lagerfeld x ModelCo campaign featuring Victoria Secret model Stella Maxwell.
Mitchell’s most prestigious accomplishments include creative directing and choreographing opening and closing ceremonies for the FIFA World Cup and ICC T20. He has also staged large-scale events such as the Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final, the FIBA Women’s World Cup, the NRL Grand Final, Qantas’ Centenary celebration, and the Les Misérables movie premiere.
