Michael Peters Biography

Michael Peters was an extraordinary talent and inspiration in the world of dancemaking. An innovator in the field of music videos, and a Tony Award and multiple Emmy Award winner, Michael excelled as a director and choreographer. In the world of music videos, Michael set precedence with Michael Jackson for both Beat It and Thriller, Lionel Ritchie’s Running with the Night, and Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl. For Broadway, Michael choreographed Coming Uptown starring Gregory Hines, directed and choreographed Leader of the Pack, and won a Tony Award for his choreography for DreamGirls. In live entertainment, he directed and choreographed acts for Diana Ross, Ben Vereen, Aretha Franklin, Phyllicia Rashad, the Pointer Sisters, and Earth, Wind and Fire. In television, Michael won Emmy Awards for his work on The Jacksonsminiseries and for the ABC variety special, Liberty Weekend. He also choreographed The Martin Luther King Variety Special for NBC, and danced with Debbie Allen on the show. Michael directed multiple episodes of Fame, Knots Landing, and A Different World, to name a few. As a filmmaker, Michael choreographed “What’s Love Got to Do with It” with Angela Bassett, “Mambo Kings” with Antonio Banderas, and “Sister Act 2” with Whoopi Goldberg.
