Kai Martinez is a dance educator who has extensive experience in both the commercial choreography and freestyle dance world. The combination of knowledge has garnered her opportunities to teach at some of the most prestigious professional dance studios and programs across the country including Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio, Millennium Dance Complex, Joffrey School of Dance, TMILLY, The Space, LA Establishment, The Camp, On the Rise JR, UCDP Mentorship Program. She currently has her weekly slot at Movement Lifestyle.
As a professional dancer and choreographer, Kai has had the pleasure of working with Recording Artists such as Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Kendrick Lamar, Paul McCartney, Camilla Cabello, Anderson Paak, Bebe Rexha, Jason Derulo, Beck and many more. She has worked with such brands as McDonald’s, McCafe, AT&T, Walmart, H&R Block, Hard Rock Cafe, 19 Crimes, SK-II, Shoe Carnival, Boost Mobile and more. She was the Associate Choreographer for Disney’s Oscar Award-winning animated film, the Emmy-nominated Encanto: Live at the Hollywood Bowl, The Lion King 30th Anniversary, So You Think You Can Dance season 18, and one of the choreographers of season 12 of The Masked Singer and Smirnoff’s Spicy Tam campaign. Her latest project, Skydance Animation’s film Spellbound will be released in November of 2024.
Kai has always had a love for teaching, inspiring and giving back to dancers of all ages and backgrounds. Her journey started over 15 years ago when she was a teacher at an after-school program in the South Bronx, NYC. Helping children discover dance changed her life and she kept it close to her heart because she also came from an underserved community in Queens, NY.
Her focus as an educator is to bridge the gap between choreography and freestyle so that you can find your authentic voice as a dance artist and understand how to bring a story to life through dance. In Kai’s class, you can expect to learn some of the many dance elements of House, Hip Hop, Freestyle, Street Jazz, Funk, Latin, and Waacking, all to get you to understand what it takes to become a master performer. Kai’s mission is to help you elevate your performance as a storyteller to stand out whether you are alone in a cipher or on a world stage with hundreds of others.
Her workshops focus on and enhance skills such as Movement musicality & dynamics, Character development, Freestyle technique, and Choreography Performance. You will leave Kai’s workshops feeling inspired, open-minded and pushed to the limit of your creativity with new ideas and vocabulary to approach your work moving forward!
