Carving an award-winning career that has expanded the boundaries of dance; masterfully traversed the mediums of live performance, film and television, from modest venues to the world’s greatest stages; with an approach both visceral and imaginative, Mr. Ezralow’s unique style of physical expression has earned him a distinguished international reputation as a groundbreaking artist. He has choreographed Arena and Stadium events in New York City, Rome, Paris, Tokyo, China and other cities around the world including his spectacular creation and staging of The Opening Ceremonies of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. He is revered for his live and filmed site-specific installations at the Getty Museum and The Ford Theatre in Los Angeles, Yankee Stadium and the Guggenheim Museum in NYC, The Louvre Museum and The Pompidou Centre in Paris and most recently at Fuksas’s new Center of Congress, “La Nuvola”, Rome. His choreography and aerial creations are currently celebrated in the hit show The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil (10 years running in Las Vegas), the seminal musical film “Across the Universe” Ron Howard’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and Robert Altman’s “Pret a Porter”. On Broadway he created the choreography and high flying athletic movement of “Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark”. Mr. Ezralow’s 2017, spectacle collaborations can be viewed in Katy Perry’s recent award winning video “Chained to the Rhythm,” the 59th Annual GRAMMY AWARDS, THE BRIT AWARDS 2017, the infamous MET BALL 2017, Metropolitan Museum and Saturday Night Live, NYC. Mr. Ezralow’s was commissioned in 2015 to conceive, direct and choreograph the new and original dance theater play PEARL, inspired by the life of writer and humanitarian, Pearl S. Buck. The Huffington Post called the show “a stunning collaborative spectacle of dance, theater, film, music, multi media and history.” PEARL opened at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater 2015, toured Canada 2016 and has just completed a 20 city tour of China 2017.
In Tokyo, Mr. Ezralow conceived, directed and choreographed the critically acclaimed show, ‘Flying Bodies, Soaring Souls’, in collaboration with legendary designer Issey Miyake and the award winning Aomori University Men’s Rhythmic Gymnastic Team at the 1964 Olympic Stadium in Tokyo. Mr. Ezralow went on to transform the Mariinsky Theatre (Saint Petersburg), into a rolling wheat field, directing and choreographing a striking visual spectacle, provocatively reinterpreting Igor Stravinsky’s ‘Rite of Spring’, shot live for television and broadcast throughout Russia and other European countries.
Mr. Ezralow’s unique blend of talent, creativity and integrity has fueled exciting collaborations with renown directors, musical and visual artists and celebrated performers around the world.
In television, Mr. Ezralow conceived and created the award-winning dance special “Windows” (Bravo), “Episodes” (PBS) – for which he received an Emmy Award, and Josh Groban in Concert (PBS). He received an Emmy nomination for his work on the 70th Annual Academy Awards( ABC). He has also created choreography and concepts for many popular shows including The Academy Awards(2005/1998), The Grammy’s(2017/1999), The Image Awards, CBS Anniversary Special for Israel’s 50th, The Adriano Celantano Special (RAI TV/4 episodes) , “The Greatest Show After the Weekend” with Fiorello (RAI TV/4 episodes), Amici(Channel 5/2006-2011), Sanremo Music Festival (RAI TV/2008- 2012/1999/1990). He has directed music videos, created choreography and staged shows for artists including Ludovico Einaudi, Katy Perry, U2, Shania Twain, Josh Groban, Beyonce Knowles, Faith Hill, Andrea Bocelli, Lucio Dalla, Sara Bareilles, Filippa Giordano, Sting, David Bowie, Vittorio Gassman and Ricky Martin. Mr. Ezralow has also been involved with worldwide add campaigns for companies such as Pleats Please Issey Miyake, The Gap, TIM Mobile, Vaseline, Raymond Weil, Lavazza, Fuji XEROX, Morellato, Ilford Film, Cutty Sark, Sapporo Beer, Ariston Appliances, Hewlett Packard, The 1990 World Cup Soccer and he has captivated viewers with his movement and physical prowess, as Dannon Yogurt’s spokes person for five consecutive years(1999- 2003). Extolled by The Chicago Tribune as “One of the best American dancer choreographers now working on an international scale” Mr. Ezralow is the artistic director and founder of Ezralow Dance, a movement based ensemble known internationally for its explosive physicality, originative thought and playful humor and is a home for Mr. Ezralow’s expansive and eclectic body of work. “Ezralow’s expertise in multimedia showmanship and playful optical illusions present a singularly American art form paralleled only by MOMIX (of which he was a founding member) and Pilobolus.”The Philadelphia Inquirer, Marilyn Jackson, 2016. As a director/choreographer, Mr. Ezralow has created fifteen original dance theatre plays that have toured worldwide. “PRIMO PASSO” had its US premiere at the Wallis Annenberg Center in Los Angeles this July 2017, while “OPEN”, with Ezralow Dance continues on it’s American Tour through 2019. Mr. Ezralow’s multimedia one-man show “MANDALA”, (1998-2002) toured worldwide and was reviewed as a work of “Modern Genius.” Mr. Ezralow has directed and choreographed for Los Angeles Opera, Houston Opera, English National Opera, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Filarmonico Verona, and Gran Teatro, Roma. He has directed and choreographed for plays and musicals, including the pre-show at Yankee Stadium for the Pope’s historical visit to NYC and the world tour for the celebrated singer Josh Groban. Other theater credits/tours include: Nutcracker Magic, (Shanghai Cultural Square Theatre, 2013), his dance/theatre show WHY(Ezralow Dance) The Green Bird (Broadway), The Flying Dutchman(LA/Houston Operas), AEROS(ACA Award/world tour), Ezralow & Friends(world tour), Salgari(Teatro Filarmonico), CATS(Italy), Tosca (Gran Teatro, Roma), AIDA(Maggio Musicale), Florinda(The Freud, UCLA) and the ISO Dance(world turs). Mr. Ezralow has been awarded numerous commissions to create new works for Paris Opera Ballet, Batsheva Dance Company, Hubbard Street Dance Company Chicago, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Rudolph Nureyev and Friends, London Contemporary Dance Company, Helsinki City Dance Theatre, Atlanta Ballet, River North Dance Company, Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, the Fete de l’Humanite, Paris and others. His works continue to be performed in the repertories of premier dance companies worldwide.
Mr. Ezralow image has graced the covers and been featured throughout dance photography books and magazines worldwide. He work is the subject of several award winning documentaries, the most recent coming from film maker Nakano Hiroyuki, on the creation of Ezralow’s latest production and collaboration with Issey Miyake, “Flying Bodies, Souring Souls”, entitled “Flying Bodies”. Mr. Ezralow’s work has earned him two American Choreography Awards for innovative and outstanding choreography, a Choreographic Media Honors Award, an Emmy Award, Emmy nomination, the Premio Positano (Italy), a Nijinsky Award, an Ischia Award, a prestigious Friends of Italy award and an NEA Choreographic Fellowship. He is the recipient of the 2016 McCallum Theater Choreographic lifetime achievement award.
