Originally from Sydney, Australia, Alvin has recently relocated to Los Angeles after much success in the Australasia region. Alvin’s dance journey began as a self taught dancer who improved on his skills by traveling between Australia and Los Angeles to receive training at Debbie Reynolds Studios and Millennium Dance Complex. In 2005, Alvin attended the Sourcedance convention and was awarded a scholarship to Broadway Dance Center in New York by the late Andre Fuentes and Tabitha and Napoleon. A young graphic designer at the time, Alvin’s career was fast changing after receiving a full-time dance scholarship at Patrick Studios Australia in 2007 training professionally in all disciplines of dance.
In the 90s’, Alvin’s earliest influences include New Jack Swing and Street Dance including breakdance and locking followed by Lyrical Hip Hop in the 2000’s. Today, his movement is a myriad of different styles from Jazz, Hip Hop and Contemporary dance as a product of his professional training.
Fast forward to today, Alvin is the Hip Hop choreographer on So You Think You Can Dance Australia seasons 3 & 4, becoming the first ìTop 100î contestant on the show to be offered the role of Choreographer whilst on the same season. Alvin has also choreographed for Justice Crew, the winners of Australia’s Got Talent, worked as a tour dancer for Johnny Ruffo, winner of Dancing with the Stars, and Stan Walker winner of Australian Idol. Additionally, Alvin has also worked as a dancer on X-Factor Australia, and coached the dancer/actors on Logie Award winning, ABC’s Dance Academy.
Alvin also saw himself as the choreographer for Hong Kong’s biggest artist G.E.M. and her X.X.X Live World Tour. The tour wrapped up in 2015 having sold out shows across Asia, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
As a dance teacher, Alvin has taught at Australia’s most influential dance institutions such as the world renowned Sydney Dance Company & Brent Street Studios. He has also taught at many performing arts colleges such as Village on Broadway, Academy of Music and Performing Arts, Urban Dance Centre and was the Dance Major lecturer at Wesley Institute Bachelor of Dance. Alvin’s experience has also led him to teach at dance conventions all over Australia and Asia. Currently, Alvin is a faculty member of the touring dance convention, NRG Australia and NRG Dance Project.
Coming from a Hip-Hop dance crew background, Alvin is the founding director of two-time Australian National Hip Hop Champions, Beatphonik (Battlegrounds 2007 & AHC 2008). His background in both the dance crew scene and industry make him a favorable adjudicator in dance competitions around the world. With over 16 years teaching experience, Alvin is a highly sought after instructor at dance studios & conventions.
