Dancers know that movement is language – through which the deepest of chords can be struck, stories told, and communities built. Thus we mourn the passing of one of Los Angeles’ own prolific and legendary teachers, dancers, and choreographers. An innovative explorer within her craft, Jacqui was a dancer whose devotion to studying the body in motion enabled her to create a legacy of expression that will be carried forward by the students she cherished.
Merce Cunningham was one of the most widely influential contemporary choreographers of the past half-century. His pioneering work in video and film, collaborating with filmmakers Charles Atlas and later Elliot Caplan, enlarged the possibilities of choreography for the camera.
