Lance Macdonald is a successful Director-Choreographer who made his foray from professional dancer to choreographer when chosen by producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron to choreograph the ABC mini series, The Beach Boys: An American Family.
Since then, Lance has gone on to choreograph in every medium including music videos, commercials, television, feature film and theatre. With a range spanning classical to contemporary, Lance has choreographed for celebrities such as Marlon Brando, Robin Williams, Queen Latifah and Miley Cyrus among many others.
As a Choreographer, Lance’s commercial work includes Old Navy, Motorola, Kettle One, L'OREAL, Campbell’s Soup and Sapporo beer, for which he shot a campaign in Japan celebrating the brand’s 130th Anniversary. His television credits include Lost, Will and Grace, Scrubs, My Name Is Earl, Hannah Montanna and Passions for which he choreographed a parody of the hit musical "Wicked.” Lance has also choreographed for “indie” films, such as Miramax’s Down To You, starring Julia Stiles and Freddie Prinze Jr., as well as such blockbusters as Don Juan Demarco, where he collaborated with Adam Shankman and Titanic where he teamed up with dance historian Lynne Hockney.
In the theatre, Lance most recently directed the original play Uncomfortable Sex for the Discoveries Festival. He was also responsible for directing and choreographing the ongoing star studded cabaret Les Girls in Hollywood, in its fifth and sixth season, featuring celebrities like David Hyde Pierce, Jean Smart and Eric McCormack to name a few. Other stage credits include writing, directing and choreographing the smash musical review Broadway/Tokyo: Side by Side, in Japan, numerous stage productions for Buena Vista at the famed El Capitan Theatre including Finding Nemo, as well as live events for Motorola, Blockbuster and Disney, among others.
Recognized in the industry for his ability to capture story and convey sophisticated physical humor, Lance has been nominated twice for an American Choreography Award for his work with Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally on Will and Grace, and Zach Braff and cast on Scrubs. He has also received three Choreography Media Honors, one for Campbell’s Soup starring John Lithgow, and two for Scrubs, the most recent of which was titled My Musical, described by The New York Times as, “Good enough to make Broadway envious.”
In an industry filled with big personalities, Lance is perhaps best known as being an absolute joy to work with. He attributes this reputation to his other greatest passion, Life Coaching. Lance discovered this talent while coaching celebrities, who were not trained in dance, to go outside their comfort zones. Today, as a Choreographer, Lance choreographs dance, and as a Life Coach, he helps people in the entertainment industry choreograph their lives. Lance's training as a Life Coach includes a two-year program in Spiritual Psychology at the University of Santa Monica and a certified coaching program with Coach Training Alliance.
